Stuart's Blog for April

Our first Morgan outing for the year was to Bromyard for the Speed Festival. Having travelled to Labels retail outlet near Ross on Wye, Paul and Lesley, Nigel and Maxine and Jackie and Stuart passed half an hour waiting for John and Avril to meet up with them. By this time lunch was a priority, so we headed for the Inn at Welland, near Malvern. We must thank Nigel for picking this hostelry and Jackie for navigating us there. We stayed at the Abbey in Malvern on the Saturday night. There’s a district in Washington DC called Foggy Bottom and, while we were checking in, John sat down and discovered that the Abbey has the similarly named Soggy Bottom! Having pointed out the offending seat cushion to the hotel staff, all that was offered was sympathy. You should have tried harder John, there are some folk out there who would have had a free night at least! After another excellent meal at a restaurant booked by Paul we had an early night in order that we could be in Bromyard before the crowds. On arriving at Holden’s for our allocated Morgan parking we were greeted by David and Jean Willey, who had arrived minutes before. From Holden’s we took the shuttle bus into Bromyard where we enjoyed watching classic cars and bikes being driven enthusiastically through the streets. The highlight of the day was a re-enactment of the robbery in The Italian Job, complete with bus, Alfa police car and, of course, red, white and blue Minis.

David Harvey arranged a run on the last Sunday of April It all went very well apart from fact that the battery on his Mog was flat and the tour guide went round in a YETI!! David says “We started at Nant Ddu Lodge, dropped down through Pontsticill through the forest and past the reservoirs to Talybont. Then on to Llangorse Lake for a comfort break. We pressed on the Erwood Station Gallery and had time to spend time there this year. On over the Begyn hills to Painscasle then Clyro. Onward to Foyle's of Glasbury for and  excellent Lunch. No problems with other car clubs coming towards us. We did meet a few odd single classic cars, who were very kind and waited for the Yeti and 8 Mogs to go through. An Austin 7 car club came into Foyles for tea as we were leaving.”Thanks to David for a organising a very enjoyable day, and for saving me the trouble of doing the write up!

Mel Chislett’s funeral took place at the beginning of the month and was attended by a number of members of Taffmog.

The Bridgend Noggin was better attended than it has been for the last couple of months, though David Jones having mislaid his passport found himself temporarily stateless and unable to leave Austria.

As usual the Usk Noggin saw a good turnout, benefitting from the removal of tolls on the Severn bridges and attracting members from over the water.

Jan, our roving West Wales reporter, reports that “West Wales are getting a bit like Romany travellers with our noggin this month being held at The Cottage, Llandeilo. A good turnout, even though some were missing. Only one morgan braved the elements, and that was Mike and Phyllis in their resplendent new black roadster. Our noggin next month could be anywhere. Watch this space!”
